Shocking new analysis of the US Department of Agriculture’s 2009 figures show that biofuel is taking a major bite out of world food supplies. In fact, more than one quarter of American grain crops are being funneled into ethanol for cars rather than into feeding people.
The new research from Earth Policy Institute, found that the 107 million tons of grain specifically grown to produce fuel in the US was enough to feed 330 million people for one year at average world consumption levels.
